What are threshold settings?
In Guidewheel, you can see minute by minute data of your machines. Every minute we collect three data points: the average value, the minimum value and the maximum value . In the following text we'll refer to them as: Average, Min and Max.
By default your site uses the average value as a threshold to calculate runtime, idle and offline.
When should I change my settings to use a threshold different from Average?
When the difference between running and idle is very small, we recommend using Max or Min instead of Average.
Good fit for Average: When difference between running and idle is crystal clear.
Good fit for Max: When the difference between running and idle is very small,
To make this change go to Settings/Production/Devices. Select the device to edit. In the Edit Device window, go to Threshold Setting and select Max.
*Please note that this selection will impact both, the way runtime is calculated and the condition (Down, Idle, Offline and Overloaded) in alerts.
How to set up my alerts to use a Threshold setting different from Average?
There are two types of alerts, in Guidewheel: Easy setting alerts and Custom alerts.
Easy setting alerts
These easy settings are the following options under Condition: Down, Idle, Offline and Overloaded.
These easy settings will automatically use the Threshold setting selected at the device level. For example, if the device has Max selected, the easy settings will use Max, as shown in the photo below.
If a change in the device Threshold Setting is made, the alert will only impact new issues triggered after the change was made. The changes aren't retroactive.
Custom Alerts
Custom alerts allow the user to select a "Metric" and a "Range".
If you'd like to use a Threshold Setting in your alert different from the Threshold setting selected at the device level, for example if the machine uses Max but you would like to set up an alert for Min, we recommend using Custom alerts.
