Real-time visibility of runtime

The first step in improving factory operations is to gain real-time visibility of runtime. This allows you to see where you’re losing production time to things like unplanned downtime, long changeovers, and late starts. Guidewheel gives your entire team real-time visibility into runtime so they can take action to address issues before they impact production. It also gives your entire team from operators working on the plant floor to management in the back office shared visibility of runtime so they can work together to improve performance.

Key Guidewheel features:

Scoreboard

Uptime

Trends

Guidewheel Scoreboard

How to use them:

Equip plant floor team to monitor uptime for their machine(s) in real-time

  • Identify the best location(s) to display the Guidewheel Scoreboard on the plant floor so all operators and supervisors can see it. If you don’t already have monitors in these locations, we can recommend some cost-effective options.

  • Display live shift view of Guidewheel Scoreboard on these monitors so teams can monitor runtime in real-time.

  • In the Scoreboard, click on “Full Screen Mode” by clicking on this button on the upper right hand corner. Full Screen Mode automatically activates the “Live Mode” which ensures that your data is updated in real-time and it prevents the screensaver from showing up.

  • In your daily stand up, gather the operators and supervisors around the Scoreboard display. Train them to identify, based on the color of the tiles, which machines require immediate action. Refer to the Train your team to use the Guidewheel Scoreboard article for more detail.

Enable management to monitor uptime across machines

  • Supervisors, Production Managers and Plant Managers can monitor what’s happening with all of their machines in real-time throughout a shift.

  • Navigate to the Uptime page.

  • Monitor this page throughout the shift and day to see which machines are falling behind runtime targets or having issues that impact production.

  • Determine if the issue is with the machine, the process, or if an operator needs additional coaching.

Review uptime trends in weekly and monthly meetings

  • Understand how runtime is tracking over time by reviewing Trends in weekly/monthly plant and management meetings.

  • Navigate to Trends>Chart and select the time period you’d like to review (last week, last month, etc). Toggle off the “Weekends” switch in the upper righthand corner if you’d like to exclude Saturdays and Sundays from the time range selected.

  • For a more detailed view, navigate to Tends>Table to see the underlying data. Filter the data to see what’s most relevant to you. We recommend reviewing Runtime by shift, by checking the boxes for the shifts you’re interested in reviewing to identify machines not hitting runtime targets in each shift. We also recommend sorting the Average column by clicking on “Average” so that the machines automatically sort by their performance.
