Every minute of production time is valuable, especially when you are at capacity and need to deliver on-time for customers. That’s why it’s critical to have your machines running and ready when the shift change occurs. Guidewheel helps you start your first hour at full power by showing you when machines are actually starting so you can find if/where they aren’t ready when the clock starts. You can track machine start times in real-time and configure Alerts to notify the right people of a late start relative to the shift beginning. Once you know where production is starting later than planned, you can provide additional coaching or make other process changes to make sure shifts - and your critical machines - start on time.
Key Guidewheel features:
Configure Guidewheel to track and automatically alert your team of late starts
How to use them:
Review shift start times in real-time
Review the Uptime page at the beginning of each shift to track what’s happening with each of your machines in real time.
If you see that a machine is down or idling longer than expected, you can intervene quickly to identify the root cause.
Set up Alerts for late starts
Set up Alerts for each machine to trigger if the machine is down or idling for too long at the start of a shift, indicating a possible late start. Set up the Alert to automatically tag this as “Late Start.”
Review what is an acceptable tolerance for a late start then decide when someone should receive a notification of a late start. For example, your tolerance might be 5 minutes but if the machine starts more than 5 minutes late, you want a notification to be sent.
If you’d like to be notified of late starts, decide when the alert should be sent. For example, you might only want to receive an alert when a start is more than 10 minutes late.
Use Pareto Analysis to make a plan
See how much time you’re losing to late starts by reviewing the Pareto Analysis of Issues.
Filter by device to find out which machines are struggling so you know where to focus.
Work with the core team to identify whether anyone needs coaching, the machine needs to be started earlier, or there’s another issue that’s causing the late start.
Review and reward progress
Review Pareto Analysis in daily meetings to hold the team accountable to goals.
Consider offering rewards or incentives for operators with the best record of on-time starts.
