Effective shift handovers equip the oncoming shift to win by understanding what they’re walking into so they know where to focus to drive the best results. Guidewheel supports effective shift handovers by facilitating information sharing between outgoing and incoming shifts. Create a customized End of Shift report that can be automatically sent to supervisors and others, to review what happened in the previous shift with the team coming on. This shows them the top issues from the previous shift, total downtime, and which machines had issues, so they are set up to win.
Key Guidewheel features:
Reviewing issues from previous shift sets up incoming shift to win
How to use them:
Create an End of Shift report
Navigate to Settings > Preferences > Email Reports
Click the + button to create a new report.
Name the report “End of Shift Report - shift name.”
We recommend creating one report for each shift.
Select the data you want to see, how you want to see it
We recommend starting simple with Issues, Uptime and Trends. If you’d like to add additional data like OEE and Production please talk to your Customer Success Manager about moving to the Guidewheel Premium package to enable these features.
Filter Issues according to your preferences. If it’s most valuable to see the number of issues that occur during a shift, choose to view by Frequency. If you’d rather see the total duration of each type of issue or for each device, choose to view by Duration.
We recommend sorting by Tags or Devices or both. To see both, create 1 report with each filter.
Customize for your shift
Select the shift from the dropdown menu.
Choose who to send it to. We recommend sending to all supervisors who work the oncoming shift.
Choose when to send it. Choose which days and times to send the report.
We recommend sending the email report at the end of each shift so you have complete data about the last shift for your shift handover meeting.
Print it out and bring it to shift changeover meetings
The oncoming shift supervisor should print out the report and bring it to the shift changeover meeting.
In that meeting, the oncoming shift supervisor should ask the outgoing team about any significant or unexpected issues that occurred to understand what should be done in the next shift to address the problem.
The outcome of this meeting is a plan for the upcoming shift that takes into account all learnings from the previous shift.
If you don’t run shift changeover meetings, the oncoming shift supervisor should review the report and bring questions to the outgoing supervisor and team about any issues that occurred to make a plan for the upcoming shift.
