Purpose: This article will walk through the steps to create an alert that triggers after 10 minutes of downtime for a specific machine. The alert will send a notification to a recipient, assign the issue, tag the alert as downtime, and automatically resolve when runtime returns.

Outcome: Following these steps will allow you to create specific alerts that send a notification as soon as the the condition is met, which allows for immediate action to be taken. Creating alerts with specific tags that automatically resolve when the condition is no longer true also allows for meaningful reporting on what issues are occurring most often and how long those issues are taking to resolve.

Process: The following steps can be followed in your Guidewheel environment.

  • In Guidewheel, select 'Issues' in the left menu and choose the 'Alerts' section.

  • On the upper right side, click the 'New Alert' button, which brings up the New Alert box.

Select the following options to create the alert:

  • When Metric: Current

  • Is: Less than

  • Value: 1A

  • Conditions: 10 Minutes

  • Don't Send Again For: 10min

  • Do Not Disturb Times: Saturday, Sunday all day

  • Device: <choose a machine>

  • Message: Machine down for 10 minutes, please investigate!

  • Tags: Downtime

  • Recipients: <choose a recipient>

  • Send SMS: Selected (blue)

  • Assignees: <choose an assignee>

  • Auto-resolve alert: Checked

Once the settings have been entered, click the 'Create Alert' button. The alert will be created and enabled by default. When the condition is met (current is less than 1 amp for 10 minutes), an issue will automatically be created from the alert:

By clicking on the red alert triangle, you can see the details of the issue that was created and automatically resolved when runtime returned:
